Move-Up Buyers: What Stow Offers Over Your Starter Home

By Mike Ferrante, Broker Associate, Mike Team at LPT Realty

Stow sits in that Summit County band that move-up buyers from Cuyahoga Falls, Munroe Falls, and even parts of Akron look toward once a starter home stops fitting, and it earns that reputation honestly rather than through marketing.

What Actually Changes When You Move Up Here

The move-up buyer coming into Stow is usually trading a smaller starter ranch or colonial for more square footage, a bigger yard, or a finished basement that creates genuine separate living space, all without leaving Summit County or adding much to the commute. Stow's newer subdivisions, particularly toward the Hudson and Munroe Falls borders, often offer larger lots than you'll typically find in the older sections of Cuyahoga Falls or Akron proper, which is usually one of the biggest things a growing family is looking for.

The School District Factor

Stow-Munroe Falls City Schools is a real draw for move-up buyers with children, and it's priced accordingly relative to some of its Summit County neighbors, while still generally remaining below what similar square footage costs in nearby Hudson. For a family that's outgrown a starter home and wants more space without jumping all the way to Hudson pricing, that difference is worth paying attention to.

What to Actually Compare Before You Commit

If you're a move-up buyer, don't just compare Stow's list prices to what you paid for your starter home. Compare the full picture: property taxes, the actual square footage and lot size you're getting for the money, and how the school district aligns with your family's specific needs. A bigger house on paper isn't automatically the right move if the tax increase offsets much of what you saved by not buying in Hudson.

Where the Inventory Actually Is

The largest lots and newest construction tend to be found toward the eastern and northern edges of Stow, closer to Hudson and Munroe Falls. Near the Cuyahoga Falls border, you'll find older, more established neighborhoods with mature trees and slightly smaller lots, but often a shorter commute if you work toward Akron or Cuyahoga Falls. Which part of the city makes the most sense depends more on your daily commute and lifestyle than on your budget alone.
