Hudson Halloween 2026: Merchants' Trick-or-Treat, Pipe Screams and Official Hours

Hudson does Halloween well. Between a downtown full of shops, a historic green and neighborhoods made for walking, it's one of the best towns in our area to see in costume. Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, so here's everything happening in Hudson in one place.

Hudson trick-or-treat hours for 2026

Hudson's citywide trick-or-treat is Saturday, October 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., according to Ideastream's Northeast Ohio list and the Hudson Hub Times.

One detail worth knowing: the Hub Times notes trick-or-treat is held on the same date even if the weather is bad, and parents should use their judgment about letting children go out. If rain is in the forecast, have a plan for rain gear or a shorter route.

As always, a porch light on means you're handing out candy. If you're not participating, keep it off.

Merchants' Trick-or-Treat downtown (Thursday, Oct. 29)

This is the one to circle if you have younger kids. The Merchant Trick or Treat runs Thursday, October 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. in downtown Hudson. Kids in costume stroll along Main Street, First & Main and Acme Plaza, collecting treats from participating merchants.

A fun bonus: storefront windows painted by Hudson Schools students are on display, so it's worth slowing down to look. It's also a nice way to support the local shops that make downtown Hudson what it is, and a chance for kids to wear the costume one extra time before the big night.

Pipe Screams at First Congregational Church (Saturday, Oct. 31)

For something a little different, First Congregational Church at 47 Aurora Street is hosting Pipe Screams on Halloween night, from 6 to 8 p.m. According to the Hub Times, it's a free, family-friendly event with treats in a decorated, dimly lit sanctuary and live Halloween music on the organ. This is the church's tenth year.

Because it runs during trick-or-treat hours and is close to downtown, it's easy to work into a walking route if you're trick-or-treating near downtown. Costumes are encouraged.

Solon also has a Trick-or-Treat Trail and a trunk-or-treat on Oct. 24, which we covered in our Solon Halloween post.

Tips for Halloween night in Hudson

  • Drivers, slow down from 6 to 8 p.m. Expect kids crossing mid-block, especially near downtown and in busy neighborhoods.
  • Plan for parking downtown on Thursday. The merchants' event draws a crowd, so give yourself a few extra minutes.
  • Light your walkway. Older steps and walkways can be uneven in the dark. Clear leaves and keep pumpkins off the steps.
  • Keep pets inside, and send little kids with an adult. Older kids should carry a flashlight.
  • Check candy at home, and toss anything unwrapped or homemade from someone you don't know.

Why events like these matter when you're choosing a town

When buyers ask me what a town is really like, I often point to nights like these. A downtown where merchants hand out candy and students paint the store windows tells you something about a community that a listing can't. If you're thinking about a move to Hudson, walk downtown on the 29th and see for yourself.

The same goes for sellers. If your Hudson home is on the market this fall, a few pumpkins and mums on the steps photograph well and make a house feel lived in. Skip the giant inflatables and lawn-covering decorations before listing photos and during showings, since they can hide the yard and the front of the house, which is exactly what buyers want to see. And if you have a showing scheduled on Halloween night, let your agent know so you can plan around the doorbell traffic.
